Doctor of Psychology in Clinical Psychology

The Psy.D. Clinical Psychology is the highest doctorate degree available for those who wish to become practicing clinicians. In the program, students will be expertly trained in a wide variety of theories, tools, and intervention techniques used for treating clients who’ve experienced severe trauma or suffer from mental illness. Students will conduct psychological testing and clinical interviews to create treatment plans for use in consulting and collaborating with physicians and other professionals. Through this process they will learn to provide multiple forms of therapy for treating clients with mental illness, behavioral problems, or emotional distress.

Students of the Psy.D. Clinical Psychology program are put through rigorous coursework to develop essential diagnostic, therapeutic, and consulting skills. Additionally, students are put must complete a practicum, internship, and a dissertation. By completing the doctorate program, graduates will have the ability to accurately and expertly provide psychological help in clinical settings, perform research, and collaborate with colleagues and other professionals. Graduates will obtain the necessary knowledge, theory, and training to act as lead practitioners and/or senior administrators in clinical and educational settings.

Clinical training hours and requirements for the Psy.D. Clinical Psychology program can be completed at one of the school’s community counseling centers or at two of southern California’s largest and most prestigious community centers for counseling. Through coursework, students will be provided with in-depth knowledge into marketing and operational practices to help run a private practice. They will learn to provide excellent individual and group psychotherapy services, and will ultimately make connections, develop critical clinical skills, and be prepared to pass required licensing and exam requirements so they can launch successful careers as licensed clinical psychologists.
