Master of Arts in Clinical Psychology, Marital and Family Therapy

The M.A. Clinical Psychology, Marital and Family Therapy Specialization program (MFT) prepares students to ethically and professionally address the psychological needs associated with all aspects of marital and family therapy. The program is tailored to give students a firm understanding of the development of essential diagnostic, therapeutic, and consultative skills necessary to work with a host of clinical populations. The program trains students to work with children, adults, and the elderly across varied circumstances and with many different emotional, intellectual, and psychological conditions and problems as they pertain to the marriage and family dynamic. The program provides students the opportunity to gain practical real world clinical and therapy experience based on the practitioner-scholar model of learning. This model is based on the belief that practitioners should have a broad spectrum of learning in scientific and theoretical principles, as well as hands-on training in order to effectively perform in an independent clinical setting. Graduates of the program receive the necessary training and clinical experience to receive proper licensure for independent practice at a master’s level as outlined by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences.
