Master of Social Work - Advanced Generalist (Online)

Liberty University’s 100% online Master of Social Work (MSW) – Advanced Generalist: General cognate is designed to help students become licensed social workers in a variety of settings. Throughout this program, students can explore practical methods for working with individuals, families, and communities. The core content of the MSW degree focuses on social policy, research-informed practice, important aspects of the human experience, and best practices for promoting the health and safety of social workers. Students can also learn how to conduct multi-level agency assessments and recommend micro- or macro-level intervention. Within the general cognate, students have the freedom to select 4 elective courses and study topics that align with their interests and career goals. The MSW also provides foundational training that can help prepare students for more advanced courses — so students can apply to this program even without a Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) degree. This program is a great option for those who want to work in schools, hospitals, adoption agencies, nursing homes, mental health clinics, or group homes. Upon graduation, students can pursue roles as agency directors, medical social workers, mental health therapists, program directors, school social workers, and social work supervisors.
